Located near Jacksonville, Amelia Island State Park protects over 200 acres of unspoiled wilderness, including beautiful beaches, salt marshes, and coastal maritime forests. The only state park to offer horseback riding on the beach, a 45-minute riding tour is available through the forest and along the Atlantic Coast beach. Fishermen can surf fish along the shoreline or fish from the mile-long George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier which spans Nassau Sound. Amelia Island State Park is the perfect place for viewing shore birds, with black skimmers, piping plovers, terns, white pelicans, and many other birds.

Sandspur is the largest beach in Bahia Honda State Park, located on the southeast end of the island. There are three large pavilions in the Sandspur area and a bathhouse with outdoor, fresh water showers. The park covers 540 acres of the islands 600 acres, and is known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets, and excellent snorkeling. In 1992, Sandspur Beach was named the best beach in America.

Located off the coast of Dunedin, Florida, Caledesi Island State Park is actually comprised of six islands and more than 2,500 acres of surrounding mangroves and tidal flats and sea grass beds. Accessible only by private boat or ferry from Honeymoon Island State Park, there are picnic tables, shelters, a marina, a snack bar, and a gift shop.

Lover’s Key State Park was ranked as the fourth most popular destination in the Florida State Park system. Lover’s Key is a group of islands in the Gulf of Mexico between Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach. Motorboats are not permitted within the park, but kayaking and canoeing are popular. The two mile long beach is accessible by boardwalk or tram and is popular for shelling, swimming, picnicking, and sunbathing. It has picnic areas, canoe rentals, restrooms, rinse-off showers and a snack bar. The bay side has a boat ramp, volleyball areas and more picnic areas.

Key Biscayne - Beaches

Frequently named one of Americas top 10 beaches, Cape Florida State Recreation Area offers a wide sand beach over a mile long to attract sunbathers, swimmers, and picnickers. Fishing, biking and kayaking are also popular activities. Cape Florida is home to a historic lighthouse built in 1825 and reconstructed in 1846, the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County, with guided tours at 10 and 1 Thursday through Monday.

St. Joseph Park also provides excellent opportunities for bird watching; over 240 species have been sighted in the park.

Also called “the Pink Castle”, the Don Cesar is known for its rich history and famous clientele. Fort Desoto Park’s North Beach was named America’s best beach in 2005. Fort Desoto Park occupies 1136 acres on five interconnected islands in southern Pinellas county and is named for the 1898 Fort built for the Spanish-American War. Fort Desoto has several ruined buildings open for the public, as well as four 12 inch mortars and two 6 inch rifled artillery pieces. Both North Beach and East Beach have made the top ten list numerous times. Fort Desoto Park has two fishing piers, paved bike trails, picnic areas, a boat ramp, and camping areas.
